How to create a Catalog Price Rule in Magento 2?

Once Magento 2 is installed, your store gains access to a range of powerful marketing solutions that prove highly beneficial in maximizing your revenue potential.

One of the tools is Price Rule, which enables the application of discounts and the execution of promotional campaigns. This user-friendly feature empowers you to effectively manage product prices and discounts without relying on third-party solutions. Moreover, Price Rule's visibility in the catalog serves as a strong incentive for customers to add products to their cart.

What is the Catalog Price Rule?

The Magento Catalog Price Rule allows you to establish a series of conditions. These conditions rely on customer groups, product attributes and various other factors to implement discounts on your cataloged products. It works similarly to Cart Price rules but in a broader scope - cart price rules are applied during the checkout process and offer discounts based on cart conditions, while catalog price rules affect the displayed prices in the catalog and influence the customer's decision to purchase. The advantage of Catalog Price Rules is that they eliminate the need for coupon codes. As customers browse through your store, they can readily view the available deals, creating a compelling incentive to make additional purchases.

4. Define the Actions
  • Within the Actions section, select the desired method for applying the discount. You have the options to apply it as a percentage, fixed amount or adjust the final price accordingly.

Apply as the percentage of original: this option will give you a discount based on a percentage of the price of the product.

Apply as fixed amount: this option will deduct a fixed amount as a discount.

Adjust final price to this percentage: this option will modify the end price according to the percentage value you provided in the Discount Amount field.

Adjust final price to discount value: this option provides a fixed price based on the value you entered in the Discount Amount field.

  • Specify the discount amount and any additional settings, such as whether subsequent rules should be discarded (to prevent the discount from cumulating with other promotions, you should set the option to "Yes.")
